To start this report, I wish to thank Andrea Hunt, the current Administration Officer, for all the extraordinary amount of work she has undertaken throughout the year, making the role of Secretary of the College less onerous.
Back in February, we finally had a signed contract with SAGE Publications regarding institutional membership of the PERFUSION Journal. This process started in February 2021 and took 12 months. All ANZCP members now have access to PERFUSION – both current and the back catalogue of issues via the member’s portal on the website. The Executive believe it is a great added bonus for the members, to complement our own Gazette, JECT and now PERFUSION. There is of course the added bonus of CEU points towards the yearly recertification.
Earlier in the year the finalized version of the College Standards and Guidelines were placed on the website. This document is available for all to view, and while all comments were taken into account, the current document will always be a work in-progress, with updates and changes to be made when relevant. A big thank you to Rob Baker for helping complete this document, in what seems to have taken years.
Britney Westbrook, Killian O’Shaughnessy, and I were involved with PIP (Perfusion in Practice) which held its first webinar on Thursday 29th September. Held at 7 pm EST (to allow the vast time difference between Perth and Auckland).
We had 34 attendees, which was fantastic, with the pertinent topic ‘End of Life impact on Perfusionists’. These webinars provide CME points for attendance on the night. Currently we are aiming to put these presentations on the member’s only section of the website for those who couldn’t attend, but CME points will not be available for the viewing of these. We would like to encourage you all to provide us with feedback, and suggestions for future topics. Thank you to Killian and especially Brittany, who led this, in running the successful first webinar.
This year we will finally get to meet again in person, along with our colleagues the surgeons and anesthetists, in Cairns at the 3 SCTS meeting. After the delay of this meeting for the past two years, and the necessity to hold a virtual ASM and AGM in the interim, it was decided by the Executive to continue to run the AGM virtually via a zoom webinar again this year. This allows all members the opportunity to attend and contribute to our business meeting. This will be held on Thursday 1st December 2022.
This is my last Secretary report, as I’m not re- nominating again for this position after a three year term. I believe it’s time to hand the baton – ‘so to speak’ – to the next enthusiastic generation of perfusionists.
In the past three years, the highlight of achievements for me personally in this role, was being part of the working group and Executive that updated the antiquated rules of the ANZCP, finalized the Standards and Guidelines document, along with gaining access to ‘Perfusion’ as value- added for the Membership.
Over the past 37 years I have been involved in many roles on the Executive, starting way back as Treasurer in the second year of my life as a perfusionist. Little did I know that it would become the start of a passion – basically perfusion, and our profession! It’s a wonderful career and the ANZCP has an important role in maintaining it.
I personally would like to thank all the members of the current Executive, Board, other subcommittees such as PIRS, Registration and Gazette, whom all have contributed a vast amount of time in the past year, while still working clinically, in a volunteer position for our College and Profession.
I look forward to catching up in Cairns.
