P. 2

FROM THE GUEST EDITOR
Jane Ottens CCP (ANZ) LFANZCP
I was asked to step into the role of “Guest Editor” for this edition, following on from the great work of Kieron Potger who took on the role as Editor (2021-2023) for the second time in his career, previously 2006-2008. He also spent many years as an associate editor from 1992-2001. On behalf of the college, I would like to thank Kieron for his input, support and the incredible amount of work producing all those issues - big shoes to try and fill! This edition contains three excellent papers from Award winners at the 3SCTS meeting in Cairns in 2022. We also acknowledge our newest “Life member” Arthur Preovolos, as well as thank the McMillians ( Jim and Darryl) for their input into Perfusion over many decades and wish them well in their retirements.
One common theme throughout the history of the Gazette has been the importance of the communication that it provides and sharing what we do as a community. While we have progressed over the past 31 years, from a paper newsletter to an online publication, all of the editorial committees still struggle at times with content. We are all busy – at work and at home, but realistically if we all set our minds to it, every one of us could spend 20 minutes to write a review on a meeting, review a
paper or a text book that we have read, write up an interesting case procedure to share or a review on a new device trialled. If we all support the gazette, with each unit submitting one article every edition (share it around between your team), producing each edition would be a breeze, and we hope each one of you will consider the taking on the role of Editor for the future editions. We also need to thank our corporate sponsors through advertising who continually support the gazette by advertising. On that note of all being busy – I reflect on the article I wrote back in 2020 for the gazette on “Adverse outcomes and perfusion stress / mental health” during the pandemic. While some of us slowed down during this period, others were insanely busy, and it seems we are back to life as it was BC (Before Covid).
If we did learn lessons on slowing down and taking a breath... have we all now forgotten them? As we rush through life again. It is important to look after ourselves! Websites such as “Beyond Blue” and apps such as “Headspace” can help us all to maintain/ improve our mental health. Thank you to all of the Exec, Andrea Hunt and Associate Editors (Phoebe and Amber) for their help in producing this edition of the Gazette.
