• Sport:
- Makybe Diva wins the Melbourne cup ( first of 3 wins)
- he Brisbane Lions win the 107th AFL premiership by defeating Collingwood
- The Ashes – Australia defeats England 4-1
- 2003 Cricket World Cup – Australia defeats India in the final by 125 runs
2003 – EVENTS IN PERFUSION
• Quest for Registration with a Brochure on Perfusion Practices sent to Governments
• NZ submits their submission for registration (Len Cooper and Tm Wilcox) (20 yrs ago !!)
• Darryl Mc Millan is President and Editor of the Gazette
• First Edition of the Gazette with colour and glossy paper
• The First year of Recertification
• We had 20 students studying the Diploma of perfusion
• Re incidents: We had one oxygenator failure and an arterial pump failure pre bypass
• Al Stammers became Honorary Member of the Society
• It was the 3rd year our website was up and running
• We went west with the first scientific meeting in WA and the society’s 20th meeting
- 2nd meeting with the 2 full day format
- Craig Vocelka was the invited speaker
- Rob Baker, Gary Walker and Annette Mazzone Oliver Biecker and Tim Wilcox won awards.
- The Sunday tour of the wine regions of WA - a memorable day
• We conducted a survey of perfusion practice following the ASCVP (society) guidelines
• We travelled to the USA, Vienna, Key West, Funchal and Tongirro for conferences
• Patrick O’Neil and Chris Morley went to Myanmar for a open heart volunteer program.
