My thanks as well to Edwina Chappell who ran the girls previously. The handover was smooth and I would like to place on record my thanks for Edwina’s work with the girls section in laying the foundation of what we have managed to achieve this season.
Finally, special thanks to my wife Vanessa for giving me up for hours at a time so I could go to training, meetings both at the Club and as a member of the Cricket NSW Junior Breakers Advisory Committee. Without her support we could not have managed to grow the girls section as we have.
Graham Chivers
Director of Girls Cricket
Coaching the Girls U15 team this season has been an absolutely brilliant experience. The team consists of a wide spectrum of players from beginners to representative players. Whilst being very competitive they are also an extremely supportive team, especially the more experienced girls helping out the younger ones. When I say competitive I should mention that they won the competition held before Christmas and were unfortunate not to progress to the Grand Final in the recent competition after Christmas. Some of the girls also represented the area in the Mollie Dive (U13) & Margaret Peden (U16) Shields with some very good individual performances.
Be under no illusion this is very competitive cricket and all the teams want to win. The fact that I have to think about where to park near the ovals lest I get a broken windscreen is an indication of the power hitting and skills on display.
It was a great season and the girls have come a long way in one season so we are all looking forward to next season to see the numbers swell and skills improve yet again.
