Jesus is Crucified
The soldiers put a purple robe on Jesus, made a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They began saluting him saying, “Long live the king of the Jews!”
They beat him over the head with a stick, spat on him, and falling on their knees, bowed to him. Then they led him to Golgotha (Place of the Skull). On the way they met a man called Simon of Cyrene whom the soldiers forced to carry Jesus’ cross. Then they divided his clothes among themselves by throwing dice.
side of him. People passing by shouted insults for the sign above him read: The King of the Jews.
“Aha! You were going to tear down the Temple and build it in three days! Come down from the cross and save yourself!”
In the same way, the chief priests and the teachers of the Law jeered at Jesus.
A lawyer said, “He saved others but he cannot save himself! Let us see the Messiah, the king of Israel, come down from the cross now and we will believe him!”

The People Round Jesus –
His Burial
Some women were there, looking on from a distance and among them were Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James and Joseph. Other women who had come to Jerusalem with him were also there.
It was the evening of the Preparation Day when Joseph of Arimathea arrived to ask Pilate for the body. He placed it in a tomb, then rolled a large
14stone across the entrance.
The Death of Jesus
At noon the whole country was covered with darkness lasting three hours. At three o’clock, Jesus cried out with a loud shout, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? (Meaning, My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?)
Some of the people there heard him and said, “Listen, he is calling Elijah!” With a loud cry, Jesus died. The curtain hanging in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The soldier standing in front of the cross saw how Jesus died. He said, “this man is really the Son of God!”
