EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ANNUAL REPORT 2020
“Our ageing population will see an explosion of prostate disease in the future.
Being a pioneer trying to find new ways to treat disease is often equated to simply being an early adopter of new technology or procedures. The reality is there is a great deal more to it.
Bringing new procedures to Australia carries the responsibility to document and share the outcomes for research. There’s also a responsibility to provide feedback on how to make advances based on the data. And of course, then there’s a responsibility to teach others, who will then, in turn, help disseminate further.
Equally important as reporting the successes however, being a pioneer carries a responsibility to acknowledge the failures of new technology and procedures. This is I why both my patients and I value the research rich environment we have established at the San.
Our patients get opportunities to participate in clinical trials that not only provide another option for managing their personal disease, but may also lead to better outcomes for many.
I believe in th”e future, we may see prostate cancer become a chronic disease men die with, rather than die from.
