CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUED STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The first two placegetters in individual events at the Region Championships qualify to compete in the NSW State Championships. These athletes comprise 16 of the maximum permissible field of 24 athletes per event at State Championships. The other 8 places are filled by the next best performed athletes from across the eight Regions. Athletes who qualify in this way will be notified by the Association the Wednesday following the completion of the eight Region Championship carnivals.
The level of competition is usually extremely high; for most athletes, reaching the State Championships is a major achievement.
Some events such as the 3000m may be held on the Friday evening prior to the full weekend of competition.
Medals are awarded to the first three placegetters. All finalists receive certificates and all participants receive track suit patches.
The order of events is published in advance, with an indication of ‘not before’ timing. Please check with your Age Manager.
RELAY SELECTION:
State Relays / Zone / Region / State Championships
• Zone Championships
AUSTRALIAN LITTLE ATHLETICS
— Junior Boys & Junior Girls — Senior Boys & Senior Girls
Relay teams typically comprise one athlete from each of the U9 - U12 age groups (Junior) and one athlete from each of the U13-U17 age groups (Senior), however a younger athlete can replace an athlete in the age bracket above their own.
Athletes do not self-select into the relay teams but may be invited to represent the KLAC. While the final makeup of the relay teams is at the sole discretion of the Championships Officer, our goal is to select the fastest available team as early as possible in the Championship timetable. The following criteria are generally used to help select the teams:
• Junior Relays
Results logged in the current season at Bannockburn will be used to rank preferred athletes for selection in the State relays and Zone Championships. In the first instance this will be in the 100m event but may include 70m or 200m if necessary.
• Senior Relays
Whilst not mandatory for selection, KLAC encourages all senior sprinters to record at least one 100m or 200m sprint at Bannockburn. The Centre recognises that our senior athletes have different avenues of racing available to them and will choose events that can provide them with meaningful competition. As such, times logged
in non-Little Athletics events will be considered
as part of the ranking process. Generally, these results will need to be publicly available and been achieved within the 6 months prior to the event being selected.
CHAMPIONSHIPS
At the end of the last day of the State Championships, a team of approximately 22 Under 13’s is selected to compete at these national titles.
Two Under 15 boys and two Under 15 girls
are also selected to compete in a Multi Event competition held at the same time. (This selection is based on performances at the State Multi Event Championships.)
Athletes from each state, the Northern Territory and the ACT compete in each event.
These Championships are held in a different state each year, over two days, plus training and social functions.
There are four relay teams selected for the Zone Championships. These are:
