Tribute t
“I aunt what I have because that’s hard work, honey!” J cause with everything I buy, I am reminded
This spotlight features a beloved dancer who was a part of the Tevakanui Polynesian dance family for 12 years. Her name was Josie Candolita, but many knew her as “Diva.” She was striking, teachable, disciplined and fearless. It wasn’t that she was without fear, but it was that she was always willing to face the challenge, no matter how much it scared her.
Born in the Philippines and raised up in a single-parent home, Josie had to ght for everything. Nonetheless, her story would nd her a crowned titleholder in pageantry, a champion Wushu/sword ghter, and eventually an ‘Ori (Tahitian dance) Diva.
She was referred to as “Diva” for her couture taste in the ner things, and her demand to re- ceive the absolute best things in life. Josie also expected excellence in herself and required the same adoration in her relationships and friendships. Josie supported women and wel- comed anything that was catering to a safe, challenging & healthy space for growth and healing. She was a shooting star that would light up the sky and light up other stars around her. That was how she carried herself and that was how she carried others in her life.

Josie was a Miss Asian Universe and Miss Fil-A. When it came to competitive Tahitian dance, she was an unrelenting performer in the 40/50+ age division - collecting multiple 1st place prize titles in her age category. She placed 1st at the San Jose Tahiti Fete, Heiva San Diego, Ori Tahiti Las Vegas, Ito (Long Beach), Te Mana Ori, and Hura Tahiti in Fullerton, CA.
