Photography Workshops, Cultural & Educational Tours
Over a fteen-year course of more than sixty visits to Cuba, ne art photographer Charles Anselmo has chronicled many changes in the Caribbean nation while building portfolios of images focused on one of the most extraordinary architectural resources in the world. These experiences have fostered a uniquely personal approach to Cuba in his group cultural programs. Accommodating a maximum of only ten participants in each trip, these excursions focus on the extraordinary visual, cultural and architectural richness of Havana today.
Exploring Havana through cultural immersion, participants will discover the city’s four main sectors as well as the environs outside the capital. Our Cuban staff provides a diverse knowledge of Havana’s remarkably vital urban culture: music, historical sites, history, museums and the major institutions of the principal districts. For the photography workshops, this also involves a rich mosaic of opportunities demonstrating the relevance of contemporary Cuban photography through visits to the homes and studios of some of Havana’s most famous photographic artists.
Choosing from a myriad of activities, each day engages Havana’s limitless examples of architectural periods, from Baroque to Neoclassical, Colonial to Art Nouveau, Deco to Soviet.We will also be escorted on a guided visit to two sacred houses of Santeria and attend a presentation about the history Havana by one of Cuba’s most renowned architects.
Daily excursions will include the startling Lenin memorial across the harbor, the Capitolio building, Barrio Chino (China Town), the amazing architectural variety of the Centro district, the palacios of Vedado in west Havana, the embassy district of Miramar and of course Habana Vieja with its plazas, commercial buildings and many architectural periods. Charles Anselmo also brings to each tour his personal list of decayed as well as restored interiors, accumulated through his exploration of Havana’s neighborhoods.
