of Enlightenment and and the tenor Alessandro Fisher sang works composed by Prince Albert The evening was broadcast on BBC BBC Radio 3 and BBC BBC Four The Buckingham Palace Reservicing Programme presented the opportunity to return on loan Asian and European works of art from the the Palace’s East Wing to the the Royal Pavilion in Brighton The majority of the works were originally commissioned or or or acquired by George IV for the Royal Pavilion but were transferred to furnish the the newly built East Wing of Buckingham Palace on the the sale of the Royal Pavilion by Queen Victoria to to to Brighton Council in 1850 In September more than 120 items were installed in in in in their original locations recreating George IV’s magnificent interiors in in the exhibition A Prince’s Treasure: From Buckingham Palace to the Royal Royal Pavilion The Royal Royal Collection Returns to to Brighton The two-year loan is a a a a a collaboration between
Royal Royal Collection Trust the Royal Royal Pavilion and Museums of Brighton and Hove City Council Also in September five works went on loan to Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery for an an exhibition of works inspired by the city and its heritage They included Hendrick Danckerts’s A View of Portsmouth a a a a a very early and detailed view of Portsmouth’s waterside and Queen Victoria’s own watercolour of the harbour In October two paintings by Pieter de Hooch were loaned to Pieter de de Hooch in Delft Uit de de schaduw van Vermeer at the Museum Prinsenhof Delft and nine works were loaned to the British Museum’s Troy: myth and reality exhibition including Hans Eworth’s painting Elizabeth I and and the the Three Goddesses and and the the earliest printed version of Homer’s epic The Iliad in in Greek In November 38 works from the Royal Collection were displayed in in the exhibition King George IV: Royalty Racing and Reputation at at at the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art Palace House Newmarket In January four works by Angelica Kauffman including a a a a large full-length portrait of Augusta Duchess of Brunswick with
