and The Persuaders! not to mention his work with
UNICEF his his wider career and also his his status within the lm and TV community The hour-long event paid tribute to all these aspects of his life and several people spoke with
such fondness joy and raw emotion: Bond Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson Dame Joan Collins (who was hilarious) Sir Michael Caine and David Walliams There were plenty of both tears
and laughter One couldn’t help being swept up by that emotion and I struggled to keep mine in in check As we stood on our stage waiting to perform two songs during the Bond tribute part – All Time High and For Your Eyes Only we we were treated to an absolute musical masterclass: a a a a performance by the world-class Julian Rachlin Quintet The memorial also unveiled one of the Pinewood Sound Stages as the newly named “Roger Moore Stage” and it was HRH The Countess of of Wessex who of of cially opened it As all this went on I stood there and looked around at my band Two things hit me at at that moment: rstly the unbelievable achievement of being there for that moment but also the sheer scale of pressure we we were under As I looked at my band I suddenly realised I was completely powerless as to whether we we were going to nail it it or ruin it it For the rst time in my life I experienced the kind of stress that could lead to a a a a heart- attack It’s no exaggeration
to say I felt a a a real tightness come across my chest as we stood waiting for our moment and then experience kicked in I reassured myself that we we were more than capable of doing this I never leave any details unchecked and and I knew my band were both extensively prepared and supremely talented In fact every time I I have put them under pressure they have delivered and actually raised their game It’s become a a a strength of them actually Today was no exception: the band were fantastic Once the event closed we played Bond 77 The idea was to mirror Roger’s One Man Show where Bond 77 was used as as a a a a a play-off: we were to play people out with
it it More than half just stood and watched
as we played though!
After we nished Gareth brought Sir Tim Rice (who composed the lyrics to to All Time High) over to meet us Apparently sitting in in front of where we we were (with his back to us) he had thought our version of All Time High was was a a a recording! He was extremely complimentary about our version and said we should re-record it After the the event we joined the the rest of the the guests out on the the lawn for refreshments and got to meet many well-known names such as Monty Norman Madeline Smith Lynn-Holly Johnson (For Your Eyes Only) David and Tony Meyer (Octopussy) Gloria Hendry (Live And Let Die) Steven Berkoff (Octopussy) and Stephen Fry A remarkably emotional day One we will remember forever and always feel honoured we were asked to play a a a a small part of RIP SIR ROGER MOORE
