24 Billy Graham's Glorious Jam
“Phoenixes, Eagles and Falcons swooped down with Tomcats, Hornets and Broncos and dropped Snakeyes and Walleyes. Walleyes are large and frisky freshwater fish whose eyes dramatically reflect white light. Now they’re also air-to-surface missiles that lock onto targets with their light-reflecting cameras. Cobras, super Stallions and Warthogs charged. The Gulf War was Noah’s Arc gone ballistic!”
Jake smiled at himself and Cathy but she too had traveled elsewhere, lost in a world of thought. Jake began rubbing his earlobe as if trying to conjure a genie.
“Look what genius our hundreds-of-billions of tax dollars have bought,” he thought. “Soldiers no longer have to slop ashore like D-day. Now they glide onshore in air-cushioned boats. Tanks have explosive plates that neutralize enemy explosives by exploding back at them. Brilliant Patriot missiles track down clumsy Scuds — giant speeding bullets striking giant speeding bullets — and turn them into bombs bursting harmlessly in air. And of course that brilliant superstar: Stealth. Here was a plane with a permanent cloaking device that Captain Kirk would have gone to a parallel universe to get, and a shape that makes Batman’s plane look mundane.”

To Cathy the clouds looked like a soft place to lean on for eternity. She began to worry however, falling prey to the cursed blessing of many women. They cared too much for their own good.
