burned effigies of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan in Lima. And on and on until ... The Hemispheric War.
From the beginning of 2026 through the end of 2027 the Allies — Canada, the U.S. and Mexico — slaughtered the Axis — Columbia, Peru and Ecuador. A large percentage of America’s unemployed got jobs in the military. For the duration the stock market reversed its downward trend. America was growing again!
That the war lasted even that long was because the Axis Army retreated into the Chilean Andes. Allied troops had to fight their way down a mountain fortress that stretched almost 4000 miles. Axis Marines used the amazing terrain to launch devastating surprise attacks from vertical caves. And these were not just your peasant guerrillas, but state-of-the-art warriors trained in the elite School of the Americas in Columbus, Georgia, and hopped awesomely up on weapons-grade cocaine.
Nevertheless, it was plain from the first air blitz who would win. The Andes offensive was essentially a mopping- up operation. Ecuador, Peru and Columbia officially surrendered after a month of air bombardment. The ever reliable but boring B-52s still did most of the heavy work, but they’d been around since the Korean War and were hardly news. Even Stealth bombers were somewhat ho- hum, but luckily they’d been spruced up with extra wide tail fins, and outfitted to blast wide-pattern laser strikes, so they regained their star status for a while.
But the most significant facet of the relatively boring war was the emergence of Mordecai Hamm, a spiritual leader of sufficient power to replace Billy Graham.
