“Maybe on the surface,” laughed Newt. “But you should
see what it looks like in here.” He pointed his finger to his frontal lobe.
Carol’s laugh sounded like wind chimes. Newt was slightly smitten. “Well you do a good job of fooling people,” she said. “I’ve got to get rid of some of this pressure. I’m where lots of people want to be, managing the local branch of Eros Investments, but I’m working so hard that I’m not sure I have a life.”
Newt put his hand on Carol’s shoulder, genuinely concerned. Carol relaxed. She demurely slid her foot down Newt’s ankle. A shiver went through him causing a whole-body smile. But the smile was compromised by the thought that Newt wasn’t sure he really liked Carol. He knew he liked to look at her though, and so he relaxed into Carol’s eyes ... until Greta squeezed his arm.
“What’s happening?” Newt growled while turning around.
“Carol might like to know why for her you go. You couldn’t me get last week.”
“What?” said Newt. “You said you weren’t going to interfere.”
“Nope. It’s advice romantic I bring. If God you think you are, it’s too little to be in awe of. So now to elevate you must try from sublime Carol to divine Caroline.”
“Shush,” said Newt. “You’re ruining my mood and forcing me to drink more. You may also scare away my hope for happiness.”
“On go,” shrugged Greta. “Use alcohol to raise Carol to a pedestal higher and higher. That way, you two will feel
