Enrichment ⏐ Broadening Horizons
At Warwick School we recognise the importance of extending your study of a subject beyond the classroom as well as developing other skills to equip you in life beyond Warwick School.
In addition to lessons and games periods, Friday afternoon is devoted to activities.
The Friday Afternoon Activities Programme provides an opportunity for every Warwick School and King’s High pupil from Year 10 upwards to participate in one of a range of varied and valuable co-curricular activities intended to extend and enrich their education.
The activities range from learning a new language, to conducting scientific research. There is an opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications or simply to learn a new skill. You can sign up for something you haven’t done before or use the opportunity to test your sense of responsibility, your business brain, your self- discipline, your leadership skills or your creativity.
Activities available to Sixth Formers include:
Preparing for Life after Warwick School
On joining the Sixth Form and throughout the two years, guidance is given on choosing a university or career path. Help is provided throughout the UCAS process for those opting to go to university after school. This includes talks from universities as well as an in-house programme of events.
The vast majority of students go on to top universities after leaving Warwick School. See page 9 for our top 15 university destinations over the past 3 years. More detailed information about the destinations of our leavers can be found on our website by subject and by university.
Oxbridge
At Warwick we recognise that an application to Oxbridge requires specific preparation and therefore the Senior Tutor, Mr Jefferies, will personally meet with all boys considering making an Oxbridge application in order to discuss academic preparation, college choice and the nature of the interview process. Some further teacher support is offered through the Enrichment Programme. The key to success at Oxbridge (as with all other universities) will though, in the final analysis, involve the student making a commitment to achieving a great depth of knowledge and understanding in his chosen field of study rather than sticking simply to the specifics of the syllabus.
Very close liaison with the relevant Head of Department, at an early stage, will therefore be crucial should a student decide to apply to Oxbridge.
Pupils’ high aspirations and ability is reflected in the places they gain at universities both in the UK and overseas, including a consistent number of pupils who succeed in Oxbridge applications. ISI Inspection 2018
