   Vamos Theatre Company
In Year 8 Drama, boys have been studying the work of ‘Vamos Theatre Company’ – they have watched a full digital performance of their play ‘Dead Good’, which came to the Bridge House Theatre in 2019, and embarked on a creative project inspired by the production.
They each made an original Vamos-style full-face mask, and worked to develop their own masked performances in pairs over Teams video calls. Mask work is important in Drama as it asks the boys to focus solely on their physical skills, exaggerating their gestures and body language in the absence of being able to talk!
 The arts
Brainstorm
Despite the lockdown members of Year 10 from Warwick School and King’s High School have been rehearsing remotely for a filmed production of Brainstorm (by Ned Glasier and Emily Lim). The play explores the world of teenagers’ brains and combining scientific information with personal reflections and anecdotes from the cast themselves, our production will be unique to Warwick.
Year 8 Art Project
Inspired by global events, the Year 8 Black Lives Matter Art project currently on display in the Warwick Hall, encouraged students to shine a light on individuals who had inspired them. The boys had free choice to select a person from history, politics, contemporary culture or any walk of life.
Improvisation ⏐ the Dramatic Art of Saying Yes, let’s!
Members of the Upper Sixth formed an improv troupe and met online to explore the vast expanse of their collective imaginations.
The challenge of this dramatic, often
comedic, art form is to accept creative
offers from your fellow performers in
order to develop a scene, character or
idea. Sessions were inspired by the work
of Keith Johnstone, author of Impro, who
wrote, "There are people who prefer to
say 'yes' and there are people who
prefer to say 'no'. Those who say 'yes'
are rewarded by the adventures they
have. Those who say 'no' are rewarded by the safety they attain." You never know what’s going to happen next!
Barber Institute of Fine Arts
As part of the development of the Barber Art galleries outreach to schools programme, our Lower Sixth art students were lucky enough to access a live online session with the Barber’s specialist education department of The Barber Institute of Fine Arts.
In this one-off session students were introduced to the artwork of artist Frank Auerbach and one of his paintings that forms part of the permanent collection at the gallery. Pupils were taken through the process of how to analyse a painting and understand the connection between the artist’s life and the artwork itself.
An insightful and interesting session that proved valuable to all participants and reminded them to look forward to when it will be possible to view these artworks in person again.
LAMDA Virtual Evening
Boys have worked incredibly hard in their LAMDA lessons both remotely and in person in preparation for their examinations, which are scheduled to take place towards the end of May.
During a virtual evening event, the boys presented a series of monologues, prose readings, poetry and much more. Click here to view.
