LEAVING A LEGACY THAT MATTERS | Chapter 12
This means you don’t have to have a lot of money to make a difference. You can create a legacy now by how you live, especially by how you relate to money and the position you give it in your heart. More valuable and beneficial than any amount of money itself is to leave the next generation with an understanding of money: that it flows in and out, and that it is a privilege to be in a position to direct the flow. Leaving a legacy of real wealth is achieved now by valuing and honouring other people, being willing to share, inspiring others to view money from the right perspective, modelling generosity and by being a responsible steward of money. This is far more precious than the accumulation of wealth and possessions.
So, how are you living? Wisdom teaches us to get ready during our youth, during the ‘summer’ days of our lives for the autumn and winter that will come, when we can quit our jobs and receive financial support to do other things. It’s important to note that retirement is a modern invention. No moral or physical law dictates that we need to retire at a certain age. Nobody suddenly becomes useless at sixty-five. Leaving aside health issues that could arise and situations that are beyond our control, I believe that, in most cases, the decision is yours: you can become a person who needs to be taken care of or a person prepared to live an abundant and radiant life to your last days – a person who helps and blesses humanity.
