CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU? | Chapter 1
With this understanding of money, let’s look at the questions asked earlier more closely. Why do we want always want more money? Why are we never satisfied with what we have? We know for a fact it’s not real and that we cannot take it with us, so why do we want more and more of it, even when we are fully satisfied? The answer is simple – money controls us.
Don’t believe me? Well, consider this: Our culture as a whole and our lives individually are preoccupied with thoughts about spending money. We devote most of our time to thinking and planning what we will purchase and how we will do so. And as long as people want more and more and more, companies will not only supply the demand but will also formulate ways to sell their merchandise to even more people (those unsuspecting members of the public who didn’t know they wanted their product until it was advertised!). Then, in order for more people to make their purchases, more and more money needs to be printed and put into circulation – either to replace damaged currency or to meet demand – until society is in a cycle of spending that is wildly generated by greed.
I realise that may sound harsh, but our starting point on the journey towards generous hearts is recognising and understanding the control of money. The truth is that money demands our attention. For some people,
