Therefore, we must plan. The idea of planning is not foreign to us; we plan other areas of our lives, so it’s entirely possible for us to plan to bring order to our finances, too. In fact, we have an inbuilt tendency towards order. The universe has a rule; the solar system has a control; there are laws in nature that provide order to the world that surrounds us. Society, too, tends to establish order; this is why we have laws. And we have such amazing order in our bodies that it is still difficult to understand how so much complexity can work in remarkable harmony.
That being said, let’s look at the necessity of bringing order to our finances. It’s essential because there is no other way to do well in this aspect of our lives. As Benjamin Franklin once said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” If we have no plan, we will never have enough. Actually, it’s surprising how well we can survive on what we have when we have a plan.
We established earlier that money is always flowing through our lives, whether like a rushing river or a tiny trickle. Regardless of the amount, when it is flowing, it can create growth, but when it is blocked or held upstream, it can grow stagnant, decay, and become useless to everyone, including ourselves.
