• Remind  udents they will now go from the Recon ruct to the Sentence Practice  age: “You’ve played with the sentence and  gured out the meaning, and why it’s important to your writing and the guiding que ion. Now let’s  art to use the language in the sentence for our own speaking and writing.”
• Display the sentence frame:
“_____[Character] _____ [reaction], while _____ [Character] _____[reaction].” (Subject + predicate + while + Subject + predicate)
• Tell  udents you will give them time to think and discuss with their partners. Say:
“Use this frame with your partner to talk about how the characters in your event reacted di erently to the situation.”
• After providing time and inviting responses, write  udent ideas on the board and encourage  udents to add their thinking to their note-catchers.
• If productive, cue  udents to clarify the conversation by con rming what they mean:
“So, do you mean _____?” (Responses will vary.)
• Congratulate  udents on completing the Language Dive to better under and the meaning of this sentence, how it connects to the guiding que ion, and how to use it in their own speaking and writing.
