THE SUN ROSE and the three friends woke to see that woodland creatures had guarded them once again. They had put berries on leaves for Bluebell and Holly and fresh hay for Merlin to eat.
The friends thanked them for their kindness. Especially Holly, as she’d never seen so many animals and birds together before, and they could TALK!
Once again the wisest owl appeared in front of them.
“Wait a while! I have my messengers returning soon!”
Not long afterwards the sharp eyed Kestrel flew in “I have found the way to the fairy ring you seek, but your journey will take you through a very dark wood where many fear to go.
He and the wisest owl spoke together. Then the owl drew them a map on a piece of tree bark.
The magnificent stag galloped in, and tossing his mighty head said “Merlin, I have found a magic grove in a far off place where all unicorns meet, but it is a steep mountain path and dangerous. You will have to tread carefully.”
The child was silent, but tears began to run down her cheeks. “But what about ME!” she sobbed, “where do I go to find where I belong?”
One of the red squirrels, called Wendy, scampered over and onto her shoulder. Using her bushy tail wiped the tears from Holly’s face carefully .
Holly gave her a gentle cuddle.
The wisest owl said “My dear child, when the journey is done, I promise you will
be where you are meant to be and with those who love you! Trust my map and my wisdom! Many helpers will show you the way, none of you will ever be alone.”
Merlin, Holly and Bluebell thanked all their woodland friends and with gifts of berries and nuts wrapped in ferns for their journey said goodbye and began again.
