disorganized Palestinian strategy. It's his points regarding revenge and politics that are perhaps the most poignant of his essay.
Jasmine V ega presents a fascinating parallel and disturbing connection between segregation in the United States and Nazi Germany’s policies against its Jewish population during 1941 and 1945. She begins her essay by addressing the roots of racism in religious conflicts of the past. The architecture of these tragic events demonstrate that they facilitated the process of “othering” and subsequent discrimination. Discrimination against the Jewish people during the Third Reich and that of African Americans well into the twentieth century are similar in that they were both institutional, they were legalized practices of racism and oppression. James Haskett chose to explore the failures of the British withdrawal from the Indian continent. He was able to demonstrate that throughout this process the internal ethnic conflicts were inflamed and tragically dismissed. The similarities between how Britain treated the state creation in Africa and the way they carried out similar practices in India resulted in many of the same problems; primarily, division between minority groups making unity in that region practically impossible.
All three of these essays address issues of particular relevance in 2021: the rise of nationalism, ethnic conflicts stemming from decolonization, and the absence of collective action in Southwestern Asia. The topics discussed shed light on the geopolitical problems that persist well into the twenty-first century. Students were able to identify links between events and conditions facing minority groups throughout the world. Ultimately, the purpose of this program is to encourage internalization of diplomatic efforts and how the global community could benefit from a robust commitment to these initiatives.
