ARTS
Dance
The Jr. Sundancers attended the American All-Star Dance/Drill National Competition, taking home one second place team trophy and two first- place team trophies, including Overall Grand National Champions for the Middle School Team Division. Soloist Sofia Amaro ‘24 placed first and soloist Chloe Lyon ‘25 placed second in the Middle School Division.
The Sundancers attended the Contest of Champions at the ESPN Wide World of Sports® Complex. Gulliver notched a pair of first-place finishes, including a small team championship, and three Choreography Awards. Amanda Gonzalez ‘20 was recognized as a top-10 soloist, coming in fifth overall out of more than 200 competitors.
In Gulliver’s first year of offering International Baccalaureate (IB) SL Dance, students received the highest available ratings of 6’s and 7’s.
Music
Six Middle and Upper School students traveled to Tampa for the Florida Music Educators Association’s (FMEA) All-State Music Festival. Tobias Schoenwald ‘24 was one of 20 students - and only five trumpets - selected for the All-State Jazz Band, while Constanza Prato ‘24 and Kate Brewer ‘24 represented Gulliver in the All-State Middle School Treble and Mixed Chorus, respectively. In addition, Margaret Miao ‘22 was
chosen to play violin in the All-State Concert Orchestra, Craig Cosentino ‘21 participated as a tenor in the All-State Men’s Choir, and Julia Izquierdo ‘20 was selected to the All-State Concert Choir as a soprano.
Fifteen Upper School music students participated in the Band Solo and Ensemble Assessment, each receiving Superior ratings at District Competition.
Forty-three Middle School band students attended Solo Assessments, receiving 33 Superior ratings, nine Excellent ratings, and one Good rating. At the District 20 Music Performance Assessments, the Middle School Jazz Band and the Middle School Symphonic Band each received Straight Superiors.
For the second-straight year, the Middle School Jazz Band won a Downbeat Award in the category of Outstanding Performance for a Junior High School Large Jazz Ensemble.
The Middle School String Orchestra received Straight Superiors at the District 16 Music Performance Assessments. The orchestra was also invited to perform at the American String Teachers Association Convention.
