COUNSELING
Every Gulliver student is connected intentionally to a constellation of adults, and none is more central in students’ lives than our counselors. School counselors are assigned to each student from the moment they arrive in both the middle and upper schools, and they support every student with
a focus on academic progress, social and emotional health, and student wellbeing. Our school counselors also partner with college counselors
and faculty advisors and teachers to share insights about each student’s progress. These relationships are meant both to foster deep connections, and to help each student take unique advantage of the myriad opportunities for growth at our school.
Faculty
ADVISORY
Each Gulliver student in grades 5 through 10 also has a Faculty Advisor, a program now in its third year. Faculty Advisors are chosen by a committee of administrators and counselors after an application process, and meet almost every week with groups of ten or so students, all of the same grade. 9th and 10th grade advisories also have 11th and 12th grade students who serve as student mentors for their groups. Faculty Advisors do some formal programming related to social and emotional wellbeing during their meeting times with their groups, and also have time set aside for more informal discussion about adjusting to school, events impacting school life, and whatever else may be affecting students’ experiences. Faculty Advisors are an important, regular set of eyes on each student during these critical years. They will often become a trusted sounding board for their students, and will collaborate with school counselors and college counselors to ensure student needs are identified and met.
