Biographies of Jean-Baptiste and Wilbrod Fortier. Wilbrod was born in St-Pierre-les-Becquets in 1838. He married on February 15, 1858 in Rosalie Baril, daughter of Louis Baril and Marguerte Paris. She died on 27-02-1903. Nazaire-Wilbrod, inscribed as such in the archives of the Fortier families, buried on 06-09-1904, dead two days before; present Ovid Tousignant and Telesphore. His brother, Jean-Baptiste was born in 1834, married to Marie Lambert in St-Antonine-de-Tilly, 08-04-1872, daughter of Gabriel Lambert and Blandine Vézina. They had a daughter, Eliza Fortier born in 1873, in Chicopee Massachusetts. He died on 11-03-1902 at the age of 68 years. They had a brother Edouard, born on 05-09-1835 and 2 sisters, Emile born on 21-05-1840 and Céline born on 04-02-1843. The Fortier father, Louis, born in 1810, in St-Antoine-de-Tilly, was married to Marie-Monique Bedard, born on 15-11-1831 daughter of Pierre Bedard and Marie Vézina. Second marriage to Léocadie Dubuc, daughter of Antoine Dubuc and Geneviéve Noel, at St-Pierre-les-Becquets on 07-10-1861. Louis died on 03-03-1887 in St- Pierre-les-Becquets. Louis is the son of Joseph Fortier, born 09-03-1760, married Marie Rousseau in St- Antoine-des-Tilly. Joseph is the son of Pierre-Noel Fortier in St-Laurent, I'Le D'Orleans on 13-03-1722. Pierre- Noel is the son of Pierre-Noel (same name as his father), also born in St-Laurent on 25-11-1686. Pierre-Noel Pierre is the son of Antoine Fortier of St-Jacques de Dieppe (France) born on 26-06-1644, he was married in Beauport QC to Madeleine Cadieu. Pierre-Noel is the son of Noel Fortier born in St-Rémi-de-Dieppe, Normandy in France and Marthe Golle, on 26-05-1638. Fortier is said to have been in France, honest citizens, fishermen, sailors and farmers. From them it has been written that they were remarkable for their probity and piety. De Turcotte, L.P., History of Ile d'Orleans, 1867 Denyse Provencher St-Felix-de-Kingsey Mr. Wilbrod Fortier was in the first group of trustees elected for the erection of the parish under the patronage of Ste-Philoméne. He was the first mayor of the municipality, elected on January 15, 1883 until 1886, during the decree issued by the provincial minister. In 1882, MM Jean-Baptiste and Wilbrod Fortier built a beautiful and large house at the end of range 6. When he arrived, Wilbrod Fortier built a sawmill and shingle mill in 1863. He made the establishment of a mill for oats and buckwheat in 1867. He also established a flour mill in 1871. In 1873, the first post office was established at Jean-Baptiste in Frontenac rank, where he remained until 1909. The buildings were entirely razed by fire in 1900 and rebuilt the same year. In 1904, Alfred Leboeuff became proprietor of this establishment by gift of the estate Wilbrod Fortier. The first wood merchant was Mr. Jean-Baptiste. Mr Jean-Baptiste Fortier who died on 11-03-1903 Mr Wilbrod Fortier died on 04-09-1904.
