Not only is London’s Royal Albert Hall one of the world’s most famous performance venues; it’s also one of the UK’s most treasured buildings. Opened in 1871 by Queen Victoria, and named in tribute of her beloved late husband, this huge, domed, red-brick amphitheatre, adorned with a frieze of Minton tiles, is a thoroughly British – and royal – institution.
