Raffles Singapore speaks to a a a a legacy that recalls the age of writers and authors Among them was W Somerset Maugham whose name is widely associated with Raffles Singapore a a a a a place that he he he wrote “for all the the fables of the the exotic east” It was in the hotel’s Palm Court at a a a a a a table partially concealed by a a a a a frangipani tree that he would eavesdrop as expats after one gin sling too many confided tales of intrigue Maugham listened attentively and once home recounted them as short stories This is is among the many legacies of Raffles Singapore – but the property is an evolving story as its highly anticipated reopening in 2019 demonstrated Grand Lobby

OLD FAVOURITES RESTORED
Honouring the Raffles heritage was central to to this restoration led by acclaimed interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud with many of the the the features that make the the the hotel unique sympathetically preserved In the the Grand Lobby
the the original Victorian floor-to- ceiling columns look as as pristine as as ever and nestled in in in the frontmost corner the Writers Bar
once again welcomes renowned and budding writers alike to to congregate in in tribute to to the illustrious authors who have resided here The Writers Bar
is not the only famous feature element to make a a a a a a a return: Tiffin Room a a a a a a a restaurant which has been a a a part of the hotel since 1892 returns to serve North Indian classics in fin the eponymous tiffin boxes amid a a a a restored interior décor inspired by the early 1950s The Long Bar
meanwhile continues its proud tradition as the the home of the the Singapore Sling and and meeting point for scintillating conversation and and merriment
