SHEFFIELD-SHEFFIELD LAKE CSD ELEMENTARY STUDENT HANDBOOK
INTERNET/NETWORK
Students are encouraged to take advantage of the many resources available on the Internet. Responsible use of the Internet is important and students need to follow acceptable guidelines and rules with relation to use. Student access permission forms must be on file for the student to have Internet access.
LIBRARY SERVICE
Library services are provided in all elementary schools. Students may take out books from the library provided they return them in a timely manner and follow the library rules. Students owing library books or fines at the end of a school year will not be permitted to take out books the following school year until books are returned or fines are paid.
LOST AND FOUND ARTICLES
When unclaimed articles are found they are to be taken to the office. Parents/students may claim lost articles from the lost and found. Unclaimed articles are given to charity after each grading period. PLEASE MARK ALL STUDENT’S ARTICLES WITH HIS/HER NAME USING INDELIBLE INK OR PEN.
LUNCH/FREE AND REDUCED
If a child normally goes home for lunch daily, one letter on file in the office stating this will be sufficient. However, if a child goes home for lunch intermittently, a note from home each day this happens must be brought to the office.
Parents are welcome to join their children for lunch at any time. If you are ordering a school lunch, please call the office before 9:00 A.M. You may also bring a lunch for you and your child.
Each school year, applications for free and reduced lunches are sent home. A separate application must be completed for children in each of the building in which they are enrolled.
PARENT-SUPPORT
We want every child to experience success at school, and you can help your child do so. Getting your child’s day off to a good start is one of the best things you can do for him or her. You can make sure your child starts each day on a positive note by cooperating with and supporting our efforts in the following ways:
Ø Good nutrition- maximizes your child’s day at school. Please provide your child with a nourishing breakfast and lunch.
Ø Be on time- send your child to school on time, not late or too early.
Ø Model respectfulness - teach your child to respect and obey all school adults. All staff have authority and
are responsible for the safety of children and general building order.
Ø Use good manners - Talk with your child about treating other children in the same manner as she or he
wishes to be treated (avoid name calling, arguing, etc.)
Ø Safety - tell your child to go directly to and from school using the same route/routine every day.
Ø Grooming- send your child to school properly washed and dressed, using the dress code and weather
conditions as guides.
Ø Information - discuss with your child all the information in this handbook so that she or he clearly
understands what is expected from him or her at school.
Ø Homework support - parent interest and support in the completion of daily homework is essential for
student academic growth and success.
Ø Parent support- Become actively involved in your school. You can do so by participating in the PTO or
by volunteering to assist with special school projects.
Ø Positive feedback - Above all else, tell your child when he/she is doing a good job in school. Praise him
or her for good efforts and good behavior at school. We will do the same at school.
This can be a successful learning experience for your child, but it will take a lot of hard work on his or her part as well as your cooperation as parents.
