TARDINESS TO SCHOOL OR CLASSES
First Period Tardy:
Students will be permitted to enter the Brookside High School hallways after the 7:30 a.m. bell. A warning bell will ring at 7:45 a.m., with a final bell ringing at 7:50 a.m. to start the school day. All students are expected to be in their First Period class by the 7:50 a.m. bell; this will apply for the Second Period bell on Wednesdays of a Flex week. Students who arrive to school after the 7:50 a.m. bell, or are unable to make it to their First Period class by this bell, will need to report to the Main Office and obtain a tardy pass. Tardies to school extend from 7:51 to 8:40 a.m. Any arrival after 8:40 will not only be considered a half-day absence but will also be recorded as an unexcused tardy. Any time missed from class due to tardiness will be considered an Unexcused Absence and the student shall not receive credit for class work missed.
Classroom Tardy Policy:
The expectation is that students report to their classes by the classroom bell. For those students who arrive to school after 8:40, or after the class bell rings without a valid pass must sign in at the Attendance Office for a tardy pass. When a student accumulates their first three unexcused classroom tardies, they will receive one detention, and a written notice is sent home to parents. When a student accumulates five tardies, they will receive a “final warning,” which means that should the student receive another unexcused tardy in the next month, they will receive a 2-day In-School Assignment. However, after a final warning, if they go a month without receiving one, the total is reduced back one unexcused tardy. Then, they will be issued another final warning only should they receive one after that month taking them back to five unexcused tardies. Anyone with a driving permit who accumulates 10 unexcused tardies as described above may also lose driving privileges.
TELEPHONE
Telephone calls from parents or guardians to students should be made to the Attendance Office at 949-4219, the main office at 949-4220, or the guidance office at 949-4223.
TOBACCO
Students are not permitted to have in their possession nor evidence of consumption tobacco or vape products, tobacco or vape paraphernalia of any kind such as papers, lighters, matches, pipes, vape (juul), vapor liquid, vapor accessories, or any type of fake E cigarette, CBD Oils, THC, etc., at any time
