Anything’s possible when you work together
How three friends with a shared passion built a business.
Established community ties and the support of a well- rounded team have paved the way for Just Better Care Western Victoria to
become an integral part of the Horsham community.
Emma came to the team
with 20 years of experience in disability, and an incredible
depth of knowledge to connect with customers. Mick has a background in community services, with specific skills in mental health. Craig’s background is in finance.
By combining strong regional knowledge with complementary skill sets, Emma, Mick, and Craig identified community needs and created a service that’s suitable for their area and customers.
Mick says their understanding of the unique needs of their region’s customers, allowed the team to recognise the importance of individualised, and flexible
care strategies.
“It’s about giving people
different choices and opportunities,” Mick said. “We’ve got a passion for providing people with the best opportunities in life. We’re advocates for them.”
The team was inspired to join forces after the launch of the NDIS. Mick said their combined experience within the Horsham community meant they were well versed in the considerations of community members looking for support.
“We know what we’re doing. Emma, especially, had a good range of knowledge of disability so people knew they could trust her,” he said.
For some, there might be a natural trepidation about mixing business with friendship, but when three long-term friends, each with a different background, realised they could create a business out of their shared passion for community care, they jumped at the chance.
From the original three team members, Just Better Care Western Victoria now has the equivalent of 37 full time staff, made up of about eight office staff and 110 field staff.
“We started with a great team, and now we’ve employed the right people. We’re very pleased with where we are heading,” Mick said.
This year, Just Better Care Western Victoria was recognised by their community when they won an award at the Wimmera Business Awards. The team has also been honoured by Just Better Care Australia with an award for outstanding customer service.
MICK, EMMA & CRAIG
Everyone has brought a skill. We work well together, we bounce things off each other. And, we carry each other through.
