When wiping down surfaces, use
a different cloth for specific areas
within the customer home, e.g., use
one cloth for the bathroom and a
different cloth for the kitchen
Cleaning internal windows, while
remaining on the ground — ladders
are not to be used and leaning over
obstacles to reach a window is not
permitted
General tidying up.
For WHS reasons, domestic
assistance does not include:
•
Tasks that involve the use of
ladders, stepladders, furniture or
equipment to elevate height, such
as changing curtains, light globes or
batteries in smoke alarms: your feet
must stay on the floor
•
Moving heavy furniture
•
Scrubbing or heavy-duty cleaning
•
Repairs, renovations or handyman
activities
•
Gardening duties, such as raking up
of leaves or sweeping pathways
•
Cleaning of squalid homes.
All cleaning equipment, including
vacuums and mops, must be
provided by the customer. However,
prior to using any cleaning products,
you should check the list of Approved
Domestic Products to ensure the
product is on the list and is safe to
use.
The product must be used in
accordance with the Handling
Hazardous Materials procedure and
the Products Material Safety
Data Sheet.
68 If the product is not on the list of
Approved Domestic Products, you
should not use it and contact your
Coordinator.

Personal Care
When undertaking personal care
services, you should pay careful
attention to the comfort of your
customer, while respecting and
maintaining their dignity at all times.
Tasks might include:
•
Showering and bathing
•
Assistance with dressing and
undressing
•
Grooming
•
Oral care such as brushing teeth and
denture care
•
Continence and unaided bowel care
•
Assisting or transferring a customer
to the toilet
•
Changing incontinence pads or
sanitary aids
•
Emptying and replacing leg bags
or catheters or assisting a customer
with a urinary bottle.
