As life expectancies rise around the world, our older populations are becoming an increasingly diverse demographic, with many different life experiences.
And their experience of ageing varies greatly.
Let’s take a look at some of the figures from Australia and across the globe.

*In 2016, 5% of people in same-sex couples were aged 65 or over.6
*More than one in four older Australians live in poverty. People aged 65 years and over make up 7% of the homeless population.7
5.OLDER PEOPLE ARE ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS AND CONTRIBUTORS TO SOCIETY
                      * In the United States, 23% of new entrepreneurs during 2011–2012 were aged 55–64.8
*One in eight older Australians is in employment.9
*Australians aged 65 years and over contribute almost $39 billion each year in unpaid caring and voluntary work.10
