Our "Wishlist" for a Mate

It is important to update a "wish list" for a mate as we grow. Here is what mine consisted of at the ages of twenty-
one, twenty-six and now at twenty-seven. A few things to note: first, none of these outline physical attributes. You
can if you'd like, but I clearly did not think about that as I wrote these. And second, notice how, over the span of five
years, my desires and needs changed. This is why it is so important we do not run into marriage at a young age
before we are done developing ourselves first.

1. Loves the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind
2. Has a love for my family
3. Is playful
4. Has a servant’s heart
5. Has a calling in ministry as well as a good job
6. Wants kids
7. Loves road trips
9. Desires to get to know me on a deeper level each day
10. Turns to the Lord in a trial
11. Never hits me, raises his voice at me
12. Loves me unconditionally – as Christ loves the Church
13. Never lies, is honest
14. Is considerate and attentive
15. Never puts down my career
16. Leaves the men in my past in the past, as I have

— Second List — Five Years Later

1. Loves the Lord
2. Has a high standard of living
3. Has developed a habit of generosity
4. Values health but is not obsessed with it
5. I respect him in his life choices, career, circle of friends, and outlook on life
6. Has a healthy home life
7. Is motivated
8. Is punctual
9. Is driven
10. Is ambitious
11. Is self-controlled
12. Has many mentors (the righteous kind)
13. Loves learning and reading
15. Is dedicated to self-improvement, always
16. Is loyal, faithful, committed, trustworthy (never cheats)
17. Is reliable
18. Is patient with me and others
19. Remains kind with me and others
20. Adores me, always
21. Does the little, sweet things to make me feel loved, special, and desirable
22. Is humble – always willing to admit when he is wrong
23. Makes me feel sexy
24. Encourages me to be a better "me"
25. Is conscientious of the environment the relationship is in – what his words and actions are fostering
26. Maintains roles of woman/man in the relationship
27. Is playful
28. Allows me to help him grow and will help me grow
