AT KOSI FOREST LODGE (EXTRA CHARGE)
LAKE BOAT TRIPS
The The Kosi Lakes are a a a a a series of four interconnected lakes which stretch over some 18km The The best way to see the the the system is is by boat boat Full day boat boat trips with a a a a a a a a a picnic lunch and a a a a a a a a a swim in the the the sea or the the the lake is is a a a a a a a a a must while staying at Kosi Forest Lodge The option to have a a a a a a a a a a beach experience is is offered Please arrange this ahead of of time with management Leaving camp soon after breakfast you will be driven to the the the edge of the the the forest From there it is a a a a a a ten minute walk through pristine wetland forest to where our boat boat is is launched The boat boat will then take you up the the full length of third lake (the largest in the the the system) through the the the narrow channel surrounded by forest reeds and birdlife to to to second lake lake and on on to to to the beginning of first lake lake This is is is as as far as as motorised boats are permitted Here you can view the the traditional Tsonga fishing traps We then return to third lake and cruise our way back Flamingos and and hippos are often spotted from the the boat A suitable spot spot is selected for the the picnic lunch and and a swim if desired For those opting to to include the the the beach beach experience you will walk across the the the sand dunes to to the the the beach beach on the the the other side It is is a a a a a a a fairly steep 1km walk to the the the beach for which a a a a a a a reasonable level of fitness is is required This pristine beach is is is is often deserted and tempts most people into the water There is is is is however a a a a strong undercurrent so care must be taken to swim only in the areas advised by your guide There are are are no shark nets or lifeguards at this beach INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE KOSI LAKES SYSTEM:

• the lakes are home to about 800 hippos and 1000 Nile crocodiles
