Greenwood Together exists to advance economic and community development efforts that will enhance the quality of life and continue growing a greater Greenwood County. Greenwood’s Economic and Community Development Cooperative includes Greenwood County, Greenwood SC Chamber of Commerce, City of Greenwood, Uptown Greenwood and Discover Greenwood. Greenwood Together is dedicated to growing the economy of Greenwood County through programs and services that result in business attraction, creation, retention, and expansion for the benefit of present and future generations.
Piedmont Technical College completed the William H. “Billy” O’Dell Upstate Center for Manufacturing Excellence, a cutting-edge training facility, in August 2020. The 45,000-square-foot facility houses state-of- the-art classroom and laboratory space for the college’s machine tool, mechatronics and welding programs. It also features flexible training space that can be customized to meet the training needs of area manufacturers. It is a flagship amenity that will help Greenwood attract more manufacturing investment in the decades to come.
Advanced manufacturing continues to grow in the PTC service area, with major investments by companies such as carbon fiber manufacturer Teijin Ltd. PTC’s expanding capacity to train people for advanced manufacturing jobs is an important factor in supplying workforce training for local manufacturers who are opening new facilities or growing existing ones.
In 2017, Uptown Greenwood, www.uptowngreenwood. com, was named one of 15 designees to receive the “Great Places in America Designation” by the American Planning Association. For more information and streaming videos, visit www.planning.org/greatplaces. In 2020, Uptown Greenwood was named as one of
only four communities in South Carolina to earn full accreditation in the National Main Street America Program. As a Main Street America Accredited program, Uptown Greenwood is a recognized program among the national network of more than 1,200 communities who share both a commitment to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development.
The City of Greenwood has recently embarked
on a second City Center Master Plan. This plan will continue the progress from the previous Master Plan developed in 2003. The new plan will continue to focus on the City Center but will also make connectivity
a priority to other vital community assets including Lander University, Greenwood Genetic Center, Self Regional Healthcare, and surrounding residential areas.
