GREENWOOD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE COMMUNITY GUIDE
 Education
Our public school systems and colleges and universities continue to supply a qualified workforce into our growing communities. Our dedicated educators and Community leaders are more than meeting the challenges of the future by offering an education and a framework to meet educational challenges on all fronts including millions
of dollars in capital investments. They offer the best possible opportunities at success with both liberal arts and vocational learning. Parents and guardians have their choice of both public and private schools with grades kindergarten through 12th.
The county includes Greenwood School Districts 50, 51 and 52 with magnet programs as well as seven private schools. Upon enrollment, students in the Greenwood County public school system are assigned to a home school based on their residential addresses. Transportation is provided for those who wish to take advantage of the bus system.
Greenwood School District 50 is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing high quality educational services to every student in our district! This is an exciting time in District 50 due to the variety of educational opportunities available to all of our students. Choice options are at an all-time high in attendance, achievement, and interest
in District 50. The district’s Montessori program will
relocate to the Early Childhood Center for the 2021-2022 school year. The Greenwood School of Inquiry (GSI) program completed another fantastic year of authentic investigations and project based learning at Hodges Elementary. The Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics School (STEMS) program continues
to enhance our students’ science and math abilities at Westview Middle School. A new Medical Magnet program at Northside Middle School will introduce students to
the field of health sciences through a rigorous academic program. The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program is focused on preparing middle and high school students for college readiness and success in a global society. The program will expand into all three middle schools in the district during the 2021-2022 school year. The Arts, Communication, and Theatre School (ACTS) remains our oldest magnet program and has received positive reviews from students, administration, and parents for their musical performances. The Greenwood Fine Arts Academy and Greenwood 50 Performing Arts Center have transformed the fine arts experience for students in District 50. This new facility will continue to provide current and future arts programs in the district and community an opportunity to showcase their talents and skills. District 50 believes that the global pandemic crisis has made Greenwood stronger as a school district and community. The district looks forward to continuing to work with the Greenwood community to produce college and career ready graduates for a 21st century workforce!
