of delivering what students need most—a classroom
and school culture where everyone feels they belong. “Teachers are working harder than ever, yet many students don’t feel really connected to their classrooms,” says Dr. Rhodes, who uses co-training, then teacher-led designing to adopt SEL strategies like student voice, outdoor education & teaming to elevate the desire of both students and teachers to excel. Dr. Rhodes, a former teacher, administrator and school board member, understands school organizations from top to bottom, giving her an empathetic, yet urgent perspective on the importance of working on school culture as a pivotal part of changing schools for better performance and a better learning climate for everyone involved.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS
Greenwood Christian School opened in August 1992 with a mission to glorify God and provide its students
the opportunity to achieve scholastic excellence with Christ-like values in an environment where they can reach their potential academically, spiritually and socially under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Currently, GCS serves families from seven surrounding counties with an August 2021 enrollment of more than 440 students in K3 to 12th grade. “Through our mission and partnership with the family and the church,” said Dr. Chris Johns, GCS Head of School, “our vision is to develop students who will make
a difference in the world by serving others, taking with them the knowledge, wisdom and Biblical worldview they developed while at GCS.” Since 1992, GCS has graduated more than 600 students, with about 97 percent continuing with higher education. SAT and ACT scores of GCS students are above the state and national average. Middle and high school students have leadership opportunities by serving on student councils or the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy. Emerald City Rotary Club sponsors the GCS Interact Club. Seniors are required to complete pre- approved volunteer service to graduate. The Athletic Department offers seasonal sports teams for male and female students in Grades 6-12. School colors are Navy, Silver, and White; the athletic mascot is the Hawk. GCS
is an accredited member of the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools (ACTS) and the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA). GCS is also accredited by AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
