WHAT WE'RE DOING BACK HOME
ABOUT
Ever wondered how It would feel to
To the armed forces the order is INVADE, OVER- COME AND ANNIHILATE THE ENEMY. North Africa proves American fighting men are doing just that. But a lot of hard fighting remains to be done. The
continent of Europe remains to be invaded and they says it's a veritable-ring of steel. Millions of fighters will be needed.. .and they will have to be abundant- ly supplied. This tremendous task falls squarely upon the shoulders of the "folks back home."
YOU CAN'T SPELL VICTORY WITH AN ABSENT (T)
Additional men and women are needed in the vital war plants. The continuous services of those now working in vital war plants must proceed with- out hourly and daily loss through ABSENTEEISM.
JOIN THE FIGHT TO STAMP OUT ABSENTEEISM!
Beginning today, I, a patriotic American worker, do solemnly swear, tihat I will enlist In th« fight against Absenteeismand thst personally I will not permit any circumstance, except real sickness, to keep me from my war job.
Ever been shot?
be shot? Ever wondered how a SOLDIER feels when he's heading straight into a murderous barrage of machine guns, trench mortars and tommy guns?
Remember the Dieppe raid? You can read something about that now in the current issue of Readers Digest. A Colonel stopped his first bullet about three steps away from the landing barge. He got four others after that—in the shoulder . > .' . a ripped cheek , . . one right through his wrist
. . . and a fourth in the leg. While all this was going on he moved steadily toward his ASSIGNED OBJECTIVE, even stop- ped to give morphine to a wounded comrade.
How does this tie in with Absenteeism? Weil—Uncle Sam has given put the war assignments and everybody has one. For those on the home front THE ORDER IS TO PRODUCE. The objective is to provide, as fast as humanly possible, enough war material to outfit and keep supplied, hundreds of fanding parties such as depicted in the above drav/ing. But a little GREMLIN, called ABSENTEEISM, is gumming things up—and that's out of tune with Uncle Sam's order for "PRODUCTION AS FAST AS POSSIBLE."
