Meet Sarah Tokumi, PharmD, Ko‘olau Pharmacy
Adventist Health Castle’s Ko‘olau and Castle Professional Center outpatient pharmacies offer comprehensive, convenient and affordable services to associates and their families, and the community.
Castle associates who have coverage through the Castle’s health plan, may fill their prescriptions at both the Ko‘olau or Castle Professional Center Pharmacy for a 90-day supply with zero copay for generic brands and also receive a 20 percent discount on over the counter medications.
The Ko‘olau Pharmacy is open 7 days a week from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and the pharmacy at Castle Professional Center is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sarah Tokumi is the Manager of Adventist Health Castle Ko‘olau Pharmacy. Here she shares why she chose to become a pharmacist and gives us a behind-the-scenes look at her day to day duties.
Why did you choose a career in Pharmacy?
I want to help people get well and live a healthy life.
What type of Pharmacist are you?
I am a community pharmacist and I enjoy working directly with patients. At our outpatient pharmacy, I am available to see patients at convenient times everyday of the week without an appointment.
What do you love most about your job?
Being part of a healthcare team that helps people to get well and feel better.
Describe the most challenging thing about your job?
Working to get insurance approval for the medications for our patients can be very challenging. It is rewarding to be able to help our patients to get all the medications they need.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
A big part of a pharmacist’s day is spent filling prescriptions and advising patients on the use of prescription drugs. I also provide basic information on over the counter medications.
What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
I work with a great healthcare team to improve our patients’ health.
