Ben Roney, MD, primary care physician
at Castle, was featured on a segment of KHII (Channel 5) new show Your Primary Focus with Howard Dashefsky. Dr. Roney discussed diabetes, the seventh leading cause of death here in Hawai'i and a costly disease. Dr. Roney told viewers both family history and diet play a role in diabetes. He said those over the age of 40 who are overweight with a BMI above 25 should have regular screening, and even those with normal blood sugar should be screened about every two years. He also discussed the difference between Type 1 diabetes, which you’re born with, and Type 2, which
is when you have too much blood sugar due to diet and lack of exercise. In Hawai'I, Dr. Roney said, our genetic makeup predisposes us to it, but also our diet includes a lot of rice and other carbs like bread and potatoes. He advised eating more fiber, less starch and having regular checkups.
Derek Dickard, Adventist Health Castle Director of Business Development & Clinic Operations, spoke with host Tannya Joaquin on KHON2 TV’s Living808 program about the growing services that Adventist Health Castle is providing to the Windward side. Dickard shared that Castle’s La¯‘ie
clinic that began in 2015 with primary care services now has added OB/GYN, ENT, pediatrics, and recently cardiology and dental services. He said the clinics provide the same high customer service and quality health care that people have come to
expect from Adventist Health Castle. As a recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, Dickard said Castle had to be at the top of the healthcare industry
to win the award, which translates to the highest quality care and patient satisfaction. He encouraged viewers to learn more at adventisthealthcastle.org.
