  Quarterly Staff Meeting
Highlights:
• Department of Emergency Medicine: Will Scruggs, MD, COS, reported the hospital started its Level III Trauma service on November 1, 2019. He also stated the hospital made adjustments to its hospital-to-hospital transfer process and asked that physicians communicate with the ED on any feedback they may have regarding transfers.
• Department of Ob/Gyn/Pediatrics: Alison Moore, MD, Chair, reported that the OB Department has been working to decrease the number of narcotic prescriptions. On average, patients receive 26 pills, down from 43 pills, with a goal of less than 20 pills. L&D added nitrous oxide for laboring patients. There is nothing new to report on the Tri-Care contract.
• Department of Psychiatry: Enrique Villarreal, MD,
Chair, reported that there are two psychiatric Nurse Practitioners available to see inpatients and outpatients. The department is exploring options for postpartum depression patients and Ketamine treatment for qualified patients.
• Fifteen Thanksgiving dinners were purchased for the less fortunate.
• CHG is doing well with quality measures and partnering with HMSA.
• Jackie Lee, MD, Trauma Medical Director, presented information about the new Level III trauma program. The presentation included next steps on becoming a designated trauma center.
• Jesse Seibel, Director of Mission and Spiritual Care, presented information on mission integration, the role of the spiritual care team, how the mission relates to all disciplines within the hospital, as well as the community service and outreach programs that Castle takes part in.
• Kathy Raethel, President, presented a volume analysis review. The overview provided a breakdown of events/ situations that have impacted the decrease in inpatient volume. Castle is currently looking to expand its reach and the services offered.
• Kathy Raethel, President, shared information on plans to renovate the garden pavilion in memory of Dr. Hiroji Noguchi. Donations are being accepted.
• Heidar Thordarson, Finance Officer, reported that Castle will partner with La Sierra University for a second MBA cohort to start in the fall of 2020. It is an 18-month program, with a cost of $15K.
• William Scruggs, MD, COS, and Kathy Raethel, President, recognized Wiley Brunel, MD, for his years of service.
  Castle Satellite Laboratory now offers expanded hours
The Castle Satellite Laboratory located at the Castle Professional Center in Ka¯ne‘ohe, 46-001 Kamehameha Highway, Suite 104, now has expanded hours to accommodate client needs.
Adventist Health Castle Laboratory Services offers a full spectrum of services at two convenient locations, the satellite location in Ka¯ne‘ohe, and at the medical center, 640 Ulukahiki Street, which offers continuous inpatient hours and daily outpatient hours from 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. To contact the Kailua Laboratory, call 808-263- 5148.
