"Coronavirus Changes " " continued
The not not knowing what the future held and not not having any control over over it I’ve been an
an
an
an
employee at at at KDL for over over four years now and and the thought of of of no no longer being being a a a a a a a a a a a a part of of of that that family family – or or worse yet that that family family being being dissolved completely and and all of of of my my teammates losing their jobs – was difficult to shake from from my my mind Even with the the the words of of reassurance from from management hearing of of of so many other organizations furloughing and letting go of of their their their workforce was was enough to keep me on on on on edge And I
was was concerned for for my loved ones – their their their their livelihood their their their their health their their stress I
still am You probably are too And while the the thought of the the entire world battling a a a a a a a pandemic can be stressful and and overwhelming knowing that that we’re all in in in in in this together is is comforting It helps to to know know that that you’re not alone And the the work being carried out by my colleagues – from live live streaming yoga storytimes to to to to collecting greeting cards to to to to deliver to to to to senior centers – has I
think helped our patrons know that they aren’t alone either I
I
think in in in in a a a a a a a a a a a way being apart has actually brought us closer Had you told me me a a a a a a a a a a a a a a few months back that that that I
I
I
I
would would miss miss meetings or that that that I
I
I
I
would would would miss miss the slightly burnt coffee that that that I
I
I
I
reluctantly dump into my my my my cup each day around 3:30 PM I
I
I
I
would’ve shot you a a a a a a a look of confusion But I
I
miss my my my my desk my my my my team my my my my home home away from home Over the the last few weeks I’ve had the the chance to connect and collaborate with with with so many members of staff with with with whom I’d hardly interacted with with with since starting at at at at KDL Up until now there weren’t many reasons that our our paths would cross Now I’ve had hour-long phone calls to to brainstorm a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a project and and left the conversations feeling like I
I
gained a a a a a a a a a a a a a new new teammate and and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a new new friend We’re working together to to to get get through this and and I
I
think we’ll all be be better for it in in in the the end end KDL’s Executive Director Lance Werner will often say that that KDL KDL is is here to to “help people be be the the the best versions o of themselves ” And I
think that that is is is truer now more than ever Not only for for our patrons as as the the the phrase is is traditionally interpreted but for for us employees too PB | | Summer 2020 | | KDL org
