We Are Not Resting on Our Laurels
As our population ages, the role of The Jewish Home Family has become increasingly important.
We at the Jewish Home work to meet the needs of our senior population by providing flexible solutions for our elder family members whose needs cannot totally be met at home. Whatever the solution may be, we are committed to providing the highest level of care with dignity and compassion.
Our Family consists of several interrelated entities all of which work together to make sure the needs of our seniors are met:
Jewish Home Assisted Living Kaplen Family Senior Residence
Jewish Home at Rockleigh for skilled nursing care and rehabilitation
Jewish Home at Home — our umbrella organization for all of our home and community based needs.
It is no secret that health care is a complicated business subject to innumerable and frequently changing govern- ment regulations and limits on reimbursement for services rendered. Some of you may have read about for-profit nursing homes throughout the country that have reduced their services and staff and other homes that have been forced to shut their doors. Rest assured that at The Jewish Home Family we are in sound financial shape. Your family is our family. We will be here to meet their needs.
We are not resting on our laurels. We continue to identify and embrace innovative and exciting programming.
A recent example is the expansion of our Parkinson
therapeutic initiatives and especially our award winning Rock Steady Boxing program. The program started at Assisted Living. It was so successful we decided to expand it to the Rockleigh campus. In July we held the official ribbon cutting for our newly renovated Rock Steady gym at the Rockleigh facility. Our staff transformed an under used room into an amazing space. As a result of the expanded space we have been able to open the program
to community members who live in Bergen or Rockland County. Additionally, we now run the program at the JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly. This marks the first time we have entered into a partnership with another community organization to run an off-site program. When I say we are not resting on our laurels, I mean it!
As we move forward we are very excited about the implementation of the Green House Project. No, this is not an environmental initiative but a program designed to bring about a true culture change in the providing of services. The goal of the project is to work toward resident directed (as opposed to staff directed) care. The Family will truly be a real home for our residents. Our staff has already undergone extensive training which will continue as the program progresses.
I am so proud to be a part of our thriving Jewish Home Family and am grateful for our staff, our volunteer leadership team and supporters who have made the Family what it is today. I look forward to continuing the journey with all of you.
