   1. (Above) Koeberlinia spinosa var. spinosa, Crown of Thorns or Crucifixion Thorn, Apache Peak N. of Lake Valley, Black Range, New Mexico, April 14, 2020. The range of this species barely extends into the United States (map to the right - U.S.G.S. - Elbert L. Little, Jr.). This species may have been of particular interest to Bailey.
3. Desert Cottontail, Sylvilagus audubonii, (right) from Warm Springs Wash, east of Hillsboro, New Mexico. This species is also known as Audubon's Cottontail and Conejo Del Desierto. Lepus arizonae is a synonym for the subspecies S. a. arizonae.
