4. Mexican Catch-Fly/Cardinal Catchfly, Silene laciniata is one of the more common flowers of the Black Range, but nonetheless, beautiful and abundant at the start of this walk.

In the same area as the Silene there was a nice stand of Gambel Oak. Gambel Oak is the only native oak found in the southern Rockies which has deeply lobed leaves (see inside back cover).
