BBC: Ukraine loses $135 million as Russia steals water from Dnipro River to supply occupied Crimea. According to BBC, the Russian military seized the Kakhovka reservoir in Kherson Oblast during the first days of the all-out invasion and let the water go down the 400-kilometer-long North Crimean Canal, blocked by Ukraine in 2014 when Russia illegally annexed the peninsula. Every second, 50 cubic meters of water flow through the canal, which costs Ukraine around $1.1 million per day.
Ukraine to introduce visa regime with Russia from July 1. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the end of visa-free travel for Russian citizens starting from July 1, citing the need to counter “unprecedented threats” to national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Russian President Vladimir Putin in April signed a decree introducing visa restrictions for citizens of countries that Moscow defines as “unfriendly,” among them Ukraine.
Ukrainian borscht included in UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko welcomed the decision: “Victory in the war for borscht is ours.” Last year, Ukrainian chef Yevhen Klopotenko tried to convince the authorities to put borscht, a traditional Ukrainian soup, forward for nomination but this caused controversy as in many places it is perceived as a Russian soup. “A lot of things have been taken away from Ukraine, but they will not take our borscht,” he said then.
Official: About 10-15 Mariupol residents describe cholera symptoms daily. Advisor to Mariupol Mayor Petro Andriushchenko reported, citing sources from the collaborators, that the hospitals in the Russian-occupied port city are poorly equipped, lacking reagent testing kits and antibiotics. The official added that patients are being turned away at hospitals.
Ukraine seizes assets of Belarusian oil companies worth over $136mn. Kyiv’s Prosecutor’s Office announced on June 16 that $135.7mn worth of assets of a Belarusian oil and gas company have been arrested. Although the company isn’t disclosed, journalists believe the company in question is a subsidiary of “Belarusneft,” the country’s major oil production company sanctioned by the EU. Prior, Ukraine’s Security Service reported on June 15 that it had seized $676,000 worth of assets from an undisclosed Belarusian company specializing in fuel retail, presumably gas chains. According to SBU, the arrests were carried out because the companies financed Russia’s ongoing invasion.
Scholz promises further German support to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on June 22 that Germany would continue to support Ukraine "massively – financially, economically, humanitarian, politically and not least with the delivery of weapons." Scholz also
