Georgia’s annual inflation slows in July
Georgia's annual inflation rate decreased from 7.1% in June to 6% in July, national statistics agency Geostat reported on August 3.
The main contributors to the y/y increase in consumer prices were a 2.1% hike in food prices, a 1.61% increase in transport prices and a 1.13% increase in the prices of tobacco and alcoholic beverages.
Georgia's CPI evolution reflects the chequered performance of the Georgian lari. The currency steeply depreciated over 2014-2015, stabilised across the first three quarters of 2016 and then depreciated abnormally quickly – by 19%
