Ukrenergo is ready to go through the winter without the Zaporizhzhia NPP and is preparing reserves in case of further infrastructure strikes. State energy company Ukrenergo worked on different scenarios of the heating season, including the absence of power generation from the Zaporizhzhya NPP. In all these cases, consumers will be provided with electricity. According to the chairman Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the company is preparing backup power supplies and an emergency reserve in the event of additional Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Kudrytsky noted the importance of Ukraine’s connection with Europe’s energy system, which allows for receiving electricity from abroad, radically changing the energy security situation.
Ukraine set a record for electricity export to the EU. The export of electricity from Ukraine to EU countries in the first two weeks of September set a trade record of $131M. This is the second highest indicator after the export of agricultural products, Ukrenergo said. According to the company, during September 12-18, the available crossing volume to Slovakia and Romania was sold out. Since September 5, its total value has been 300 MW during the day and evening hours and 250 MW at night. Compared to the previous week, the weighted average access price to the interstate crossing decreased to UAH 8,100/MWh (-12.9%). It is also noted that the total access cost to interstate power grids sold by Ukrenergo during auctions from June 30 to September 18 is more than UAH 4.1B.
Ukraine will ask ENTSO-E to increase electricity exports to Europe. As the chairman of the company's board, Volodymyr Kudrytsky specified that currently, more than 600 MW of capacity is being exported to Moldova, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. The company wants to increase the export limit to Romania and Slovakia, which is 250 MW. In addition, Ukraine plans to increase electricity exports to Poland as part of helping the country with electricity supplies beginning October 1. In addition, commercial supply to Poland is expected to increase due to the opening of a restored power line, which is expected later this year. According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine seeks to increase the EU electricity export limits to 2,700 MW.
Ukraine will increase electricity exports to Romania and Slovakia. The European grid operators’ network, ENTSO-E, agreed to allow Ukraine to increase electricity exports to the EU by 20% during daytime hours, reported state electricity company Ukrenergo. Ukraine will ship 300 megawatts from 7 am to 11 pm CET Monday through Friday and from 9 am to 11 pm on weekends, Ukrenergo said. The country’s electricity exports will remain at 250 MW during overnight hours. The increase will start Monday with Ukraine shipping 125 MW to Romania and 175 MW to Slovakia. Beginning Tuesday, exports will be 150 MW to each destination, Ukrenergo said.
Electricity in Eastern Europe costs 6 times more than in Ukraine. The exchange price for electricity in the Eastern European countries on September 6 was €480 per MWh. (UAH 17.50/kWh). This is six times higher than the price in Ukraine, the Market Operator reported. Thus, in Hungary on September 6, the wholesale price of electricity was €484 per MWh, in Slovakia – €483 per MWh, in the Czech Republic – €474 per MWh. In Ukraine, the exchange price remains at UAH 3.1/kWh. or €85 per MWh.
