Defense Minister nominee Andrey Belousov stressed the need for more troop recruitment but clarified that “routine measures” like non-combat conscription and especially contract service are the tools to achieve this. Belousov also discussed strategies for more efficient military production and better social benefits for soldiers.
Belousov gets an ally subordinate at the Defense Ministry: Vladimir Putin has appointed another former Economic Development Ministry official to a senior Defense Ministry position. Oleg Savelyev is the first deputy named to serve under Russia’s new defense minister, Andrey Belousov. Savelyev replaces Colonel General Yuri Sadovenko, a longtime close colleague of Sergey Shoigu, Belousov’s predecessor.
The Kremlin is preparing a retaliatory strike in advance to the Americans, who at the G7 summit in mid-June may agree with the Europeans on the confiscation of part of the seized reserves of the Russian Central Bank. Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing the seizure of any American assets in Russia as compensation for Russian assets seized in the United States. The remaining American business in Russia, which is not as small as it might seem, is under threat. As well as people whom Russian authorities may recognize as having ties to the United States.
Rector of RANEPA decided to rename the Gaidar Forum. RANEPA will relaunch the Gaidar Forum in 2025 under a new name - they decided to devote it to civil service issues. The event has been held since 2010, where current political and economic issues were discussed. The Gaidar Forum will be relaunched in January 2025 under a different name; it will be devoted to issues of state and municipal service, as well as relations between federal and regional centers, said Alexey Komissarov, Rector of RANEPA. His words are quoted by TASS . “This will be a different forum, and its main goal, as we are now planning, will be everything related to the public service, municipal service, relations between federal centers, regional and [municipal] centers,” he said. The Gaidar Forum was named after economist and former Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar. Since 2010, it has been held annually at the central campus of RANEPA in Moscow. The conference participants - members of the Cabinet of Ministers, ministers, governors, politicians, officials and experts - discussed current economic and political issues.
