In 2024, Iran's Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) sector demonstrated notable growth potential whilst undergoing significant policy shifts. The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) market reached $25.58bn, with forecasts suggesting expansion to $30.80bn by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of 3.78%.
The telecommunications segment showed steady development, with projections indicating a 2.21% compound annual growth rate from 2024 to 2029. This growth trajectory reflected ongoing infrastructure investments and rising demand for connectivity services across the country.
December 2024 marked a pivotal shift in Iran's digital landscape with the lifting of restrictions on WhatsApp and Google Play. This policy change, implemented under President Masoud Pezeshkian's administration, signalled a broader movement towards reducing internet restrictions. The decision represented a significant departure from previous approaches to digital platform regulation.
Another notable policy shift occurred in October 2024, when Iran reversed its ban on new iPhone imports. This decision allowed official market entry for iPhone models 14, 15 and 16, effectively ending restrictions implemented in 2023. The move aligned with President
